A team of scientists in Uganda has made a great breakthrough in understanding and analysing the secret protein that makes human skin so unique, and it is now making our skin as unique as the rest of our body.

Researchers at University College of Veterinary Medicine, London and in collaboration with the US-based company Grafton Research have identified the genes that make up the DNA of human skin, which may give us a clue by turning out to be the secret genetic material that allows us to recognise people.

“In humans we have only one set of genes involved in skin development and three gene variants are responsible for our skin colour and hair colour. So the unique way our DNA actually reacts to people is linked to our uniqueness,” said Rene Fuhrmann the University College of Veterinary Medicine researcher.

Fuhrmann said the team had been studying the human genome over the last 30 years and found that only eight genes on each chromosome of human skin are found in the human genome.

The study led to Dr Stephen W. Schaffer, an associate professor in the University College of Veterinary Medicine and a co-author of the study.

In May 2014, a group of U.K.-based academics reported how the “international community has been failing to recognize the power of our country,” but they did not show it.

“In 2014 alone, the UN gave [Barrett] $2.4 million to help pay for travel to the affected countries,” said the report, “COPYRIGHT 2012”. That said, this year has been a bit of a disaster for the UN, as they received nearly $600,000 in travel insurance to help cover some 100,000 Iraqis impacted by the worst of the catastrophe (see slideshow above). Even before they received the $2.4 million, however, Barrett did not mention Iraq, which is now the biggest donor to the group, which is also in need of more aid.

While this does present some great positives, this article is only part of a larger “worldwide effort… to help those affected by terror.”

What We Can Do to Mobilize the People of Iraq to Respond

In the end, the UN may as well have been building a bomb.
