In January 2008, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, visited Kenya on an extended-stay visit to Kenya in which, among other things, she spoke of her experience attending a rape kit examination in Kenya under the circumstances and how she was surprised by the “stunningly calm” treatment she was received there. According to Ali, the “very strong reaction by many women in the country has been to protest against the law.”
