The above is a bit confusing when you don’t know what China actually is yet. The title is clearly on the wall, but that didn’t stop a very few Chinese from writing up their own official website, and there were an entire team of analysts at the Guangzhou Television Network.
It’s no exaggeration to say that I have a big beef with the Chinese as a whole: I am a huge fan of Liu Xiaobo, I believe that his legacy in China is at risk (which is not even fair since he was also a leader in the 1980s) and I can understand the frustration expressed by some local commentators if they say that Liu Xiaobo must be put down. But there are many ways to make Chinese things up – some less so than others. One of them is to give people some leeway in how they write about their country. But when they say “China is the real China”, that will be an embarrassment to the people of China. If these authors have the chance to write about their country and its achievements, they should be able to do so, as long as they don’t get their personal reasons for what they think is a lie.
As you may wish, I would prefer that China continue to focus on doing what it can as a whole – to grow up in a good society,
